Excellent! This is just what I've been waiting for. Mac users who are disabled and need
to use an Augmentative Alternative Communication device may find the Modbook useful.
I have ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), and have been shopping for an AAC device. I am
frustrated that there is great AAC software for OS X from http://www.assistiveware.com/ ,
but there are no Macs designed for portability with a touch screen. The Macbooks that have
been modified to have touch screen are nice, but certainly not ideal for disabilities such
as mine. A tablet is exactly what I need, and there are plenty of PC Windows-based AAC
devices available, but I don't find the software or OS environment is anywhere near as
friendly, reliable, or intuitively presented as the Mac environment and software made for
Mac. Additionally, I am Mac... and don't want to be forced to be PC.
I hope
that this new event sparks a chain of great things. The disability market NEEDS to
consider Mac users and stop forcing us to go with Windows PCs.
I expect the
speakers on the Modbook will not be loud enough for good AAC use, but I will try to
permanently attach small USB powered speakers to the case. I want this thing!
