At 10am PST this morning Steve Jobs began a presentation for a number of new Apple products. To start, there was a new and more refined version of iTunes, now 5.0. It offers the ability to group playlists in folders and offers greater control of iTunes random play feature.
Jobs stated that Apple was responding to customer feedback. As many of us have noted, iTunes has a problem coming up with a truly random mix of music. A new slider has...
Tomshardware.com has released some detailed information about Microsoft's upcoming file system format known as WinFS. And, though it is on a development cycle separate from Windows Vista and Longhorn Server, it seems clear that Microsoft expects WinFS to be the future for Windows.
As I read the details about the new file system, it occurred to me that this could actually become the single largest security concern on the internet...
Here's a great blog post about a guy who just had Verizon's fiber-optic internet service installed in his house. Just like any of us, you can bet he was sitting outside watching like a kid waiting for his birthday present. Can you blame him?
I can't say that I'm a big fan of Dvorak, but from time to time he makes a good point. Given the install base of Windows XP... How often does Windows crash?
Google Talk was announced this morning. Unfortunately, there is no Mac software client. Upset that Google would shun the Mac community? Don't be. Google didn't make a Mac client because the OS already ships with a client that supports Google Talk...
Google has taken its time getting Gmail ready for public use, but this morning it finally happened! Now anyone can sign up for a Gmail address. Accounts are no longer available through invitation only.
At the same time, Google added a powerful new feature to Gmail that lets users...
There have been a number of challengers to Tivo's share of the DVR (Digital Video Recorder) market. But until now, Tivo always had a partnership with DirecTV to supplement its offerings in the "Stand Alone" market. And, for months, there have been stories that the partnership may be in danger.
Last night, a more comprehensive story was published detailing DirecTV's plans to release its own DVR device. With that, DirecTV will continue to offer Tivo boxes, but only to customers who request them. Some say this will be the end
A new worm is tearing through the internet this week. Just as in the past, vulnerabilities in Microsoft based Windows operating systems are to blame. This time it is a security issue found in Windows 2000.
Once again, we prepare to play the blame game. It is true that Microsoft released a patch for this issue on August 9th with a rating of "critical." To those accustomed to Microsoft's severity scale...
Project Motorsport started out as a fun way to spend an afternoon. We set out to shoot some motorcycle video and have a good time. Once when we brought the video back and began to edit, we realized we had the making of a music video.
Check out the video and see for yourself. And, if your interested in further information on the project, we give you that too!
The Freedom to Switch:
In 2003 Apple Computer released a marketing campaign with the intention of showing Wintel users how easy it would be to "switch" platforms.
One of the Mac's main selling points, ironically enough, was Digital Video Editing. Apple wanted the world to see how easy it was to edit video on the Mac platform. And, in overwhelming response, Mac users set out to show the world just how easy it really was.
The campaign was effective for Apple, but also spawned a unexpected parody campaign in the Mac underworld. Users from all of the world whipped out their camcorders and set to work making spoofs in the same cinematic style as the acclaimed commercial line.
With this, Maclive.net rose to the challenge and shot our own spoof. We think it proves that a Mac can be a powerful tool in the wrong hands. It also shows how far a couple of Mac fans will go for a laugh. We hope you enjoy our contribution, aptly named The Freedom to Switch.
