Word is making its way around the net that the processors in the new iMac’s are upgradeable. Apparently the story was first published in a Japanese magazine, though several sites are carrying the news this morning.
If this is the case, the new iMacs could be an even better bargain that we first believed. Several Mac centric companies have made millions selling upgraded processors for older Macs. Historically, Apple has made this difficult by hardwiring the processor to the logic board, or even adding the ROM directly to the chip.
If this story is proven true, the iMac could be far more upgradeable than anyone had originally anticipated. More on this as it develops…
